Advent wreaths are used around the world to mark the passage of the 4 weeks prior to Christmas. Four candles are placed on a horizontal wreath: 3 purple representing hope, love, peace: 1 pink, representing joy. A candle is lit (with prayer and scripture reading) at the beginning of each week, with all 4 candles being lit the last week before Christmas.
